Windows 7 Ultimate - review
 |
My first impression of Windows 7 is quite good. Looks stabile, and running on less
system power then Windows Vista. Using the same basic system. All programs you could run on
Windows Vista, will run on Windows 7. The navigation is much smoother, and things
in general look rather good. The quote "Windows Vista, now I can crach my computer even prettier"
is not longer valid in this version.

The computer I've been testing on is:
- AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Dual-Core Prosessor TK-57 1,90Ghz
- 2,00 GB Random Access Memory
- ATI Radeon X1200 Series screencard
- 200GB internal hard drive
- Mainboard: K000016390
Performance
While writing this, I have been running my Windows 7 computer for 17 days. Downloaded 170GB,
uploaded 49GB. Been running somewhere between 40 and 50 prosesses the whole time. No real problems
when running on 70+ CPU power over a period of time. I tryed setting up one FTP server, and
having several users connected at the same time. I had network drives on another computer and
streaming to other computers without problems.
Usability
Windows have now made it simple. Actually simple. And then still not so simple it's insulting
for the more advanced user (or atleast me). If you have many windows open of the same kind of object,
you will be able to switch between them by holding the cursor over the desired object in the startup
line, and then later make your choise. You will then get a list of all the equal objects,
and can easily choose. I like this function, and i guess it's something Microsoft picked up
from some of the other operation systems arround.
Conclusion
I'm impressed. Installing took about an hour, but we can live with that. Then after installation
is complete, installing other programs is really fast. Searching for programs and files is better
and no doubt something we all could get used to. Startup takes only a minute, and it look stabile.
Microsoft learned from the Windows Vista release, and in my book, they made something good.
